Our story

Stewards of Ancient Land

Kisatchie Vista began the way most great things do — with a deep love for a place. Victoria and Patrick Richmond didn't set out to build a glamping business. They set out to preserve a piece of Louisiana that most people never get to see.

The land surrounding our cabins is no ordinary forest. It borders Kisatchie National Forest in the Claiborne area of central Louisiana — a landscape layered with history reaching back centuries. This was land where the Trail of Tears passed, where Native tribes camped beneath these same towering pines. In the 1940s, Camp Claiborne trained tens of thousands of WWII soldiers in these very woods. The history here runs as deep as the creek beds.

We are active stewards of this property — maintaining its trails, protecting its creek ecosystems, preserving the 1901 homestead that still stands on our land, and welcoming guests who share our reverence for wild, quiet places.

Each of our three cabins was designed not just to be beautiful, but to put you in genuine contact with this forest. The outdoor theaters so you can watch films beneath a canopy of stars. The barrel sauna so you can slow down and breathe. The trails so you can wander where soldiers once marched.

Adventures in Kisatchie

Kisatchie National Forest is Louisiana's only national forest — over 600,000 acres of longleaf pine, sandstone bluffs, and winding waterways. Here's what to do when you're staying with us.

Trails

Private trails run directly from our properties. The WWII timber tram trail and creek paths are just steps from Clark's Cabin, while the Bougie Bunkhouse has direct access to 25 private acres.

Loran OHV multi-use trails are minutes away — ask us for directions to the best trailheads for your pace and ability.

Hiking

The Wild Azalea Trail — one of the longest hiking trails in Louisiana at 31 miles — runs through Kisatchie and is spectacular in spring. Indian Creek Recreation Area is just 15 minutes away.

Our creek trails are lined with wild azaleas and pass through bottomland hardwoods unlike anywhere else in the state.

Enduro & OHV

Victoria and Patrick are Jeepers and enduro enthusiasts. We'll point you to the best trails in Kisatchie — from beginner-friendly forest roads to technical single-track.

Bring your ATV, UTV, dirt bike, or Jeep. Camp Claiborne is minutes away and has routes for every skill level. We can also connect you with local riding groups.

Biking

The forest road network around Kisatchie is excellent for road and gravel cycling. The Loran trail system also offers mountain biking through the pines — fast, rooty, and genuinely fun.

Horses

Our horse farm is just across the road from the Bougie Bunkhouse. Book a farm tour, meet the horses, or arrange our beloved "Pastries with Ponies" experience — a guest favorite that sells out fast.

Horse experiences must be booked in advance. Limited availability dependent on weather and other bookings.

History Tours

This land carries centuries of history. The Trail of Tears passed through here. Camp Claiborne trained WWII troops in these very woods. Our 1901 homestead cabin is open for guided tours.

Geocaching, historic drives, and guided historical walks are available with a little notice. No digging or artifact hunting is permitted — this is protected land.

You'll have 25 private acres to explore, bordered by a historic 1901 homestead (tour available) and our horse farm across the road. Creek access is just a short walk, and miles of Kisatchie National Forest trails begin at your doorstep.

Clark's Cabin sits in a quiet corner of the Kisatchie Claiborne area, directly bordering the National Forest. With 100+ acres behind the cabin and forest trails accessible from the back door, this is true wilderness solitude — with designer interiors.

The upgraded outdoor theater with teepee daybed and enhanced sound system is one of the most unique features in all of Louisiana glamping. Evenings here feel cinematic in every sense.

The pavilion is where most guests spend their days — shaded dining, board games, reading in the hanging chair, or morning coffee surrounded by towering pines. The full kitchen means you can cook real meals and stay as long as you like.

Outdoor Theater

Your private outdoor theater includes an enhanced sound system, teepee daybed, cozy blankets, and ambient lighting. The DVD projector is included free with all stays. Upgrade to our Movies Under the Stars experience for a streaming projector, surround sound, and gourmet snacks.

The Forest

A short walk down a lantern-lit forest path leads to your private wellness hideaway — a Finnish cedar barrel sauna, an outdoor shower beneath the trees, and a quiet clearing for cooling off, stretching, or stargazing. This is the only experience like it in Kisatchie.

Outdoor Cooking Porch
